Readers of “Two Awesome Movie Nerds” may remember a post I wrote back in June about seeing “Pontypool” at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. My friends who saw the film and I all had a really great time watching it, and we were just a little disappointed that we didn’t get to share the experience with more people.
Well, “Pontypool” came out on DVD in January, so I decided it was high time I got a bunch of people together and watched the film with all of my study abroad buddies (plus a few others) who missed out the first time. It turned out to be a pretty great party. My friend Bethany and I spent the whole afternoon putting together a spread of horror-themed food. I’m particularly proud of the brain cupcakes we made:
I got the idea (sort of) from Martha Stewart’s site. The frosting decoration didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted it to (chalk it up to buying the frosting instead of using the fancypants recipe Martha offers), but the cupcakes themselves tasted awesome. They were red velvet with cherry pie filling in the middle, so they were squishy and “bloody”–Like brains!
We also had some raspberry jello with grapes that looked convincingly gory. Take a look:
Everyone had a really good time, and (more importantly) everyone really liked the movie. It was really exciting getting to share “Pontypool” with my friends after raving about it for months. I’m hoping I’ll get the chance to do this again in the future, perhaps with different food. Maybe green jello for “Alien.” Who knows?
